I call deer "silly animals" in an affectionate way. The young ones especially can be very silly and never fail to make me laugh.
I have an agreement with the deer that live in our area...if they let me take funny animal photos of them they can eat all the flowers they want from my garden. Well, they eat all the flowers anyway (and the vegetables too) but I can at least kid myself that they're paying for their dinner! One day I couldn't believe my luck when I saw four deer wander into my neighbour's yard. They were all males, all with different sizes of antlers. The youngest deer had little nubs that were barely visible. The second-youngest deer had tiny horns showing and the next one had four-point antlers. Big daddy buck had six-point antlers.
Here's a picture of what I assume is the father deer posing with his second-youngest son.
And here's another shot of the three brothers posing.
The second-youngest deer liked to spar with his older brother. First he would approach submissively and sniff him out.
After a bit of sniffing, the sparring would begin. The young one's horns were only a few inches long but he was quite the little fighter.
The younger deer was constantly challenging the older one. Here he is showing his younger brother how it's done. See what I mean? Silly animals!
